The #1 Thing I Let Go to Rid My Bloating & Irregularity
It wasn’t long ago that I would feel super bloated after dinner. It would feel like my stomach was a balloon and if you took a pin to me I would just pop.
The bloating would feel uncomfortable and it would happen more nights than not. And because the bloating wasn’t necessarily painful, just uncomfortable, I ignored it.
I figured a lot more people have worse digestive problems than this and what’s a little boat, everyone has this right?
Then I also started to make a connection between my bloating and irregularity. The bloating seemed worse when I had more irregularity in the bathroom, aka constipation.
At the time I kept writing these things off. I figured everyone had some bathroom issues so really what was so special about me? Also, I was just plain busy. There were some new projects I was juggling on top of everything else. So, in my head not only was I not special with my digestive issues I had no time either.
Light Bulb Moment
You know when people have a light bulb moment where they just come to the realization that things can be better? I never had that.
Nothing really major happened. I just decided that I didn’t want to deal with it anymore. I wanted to enjoy eating without having to feel gross after. I wanted to go to the bathroom without worry or stress that it was going to be an uncomfortable bowel movement.
Bloating almost every night is not (and should not) be anyone’s version of normal. In all honesty, I had to start practicing more of what I was preaching. I knew that there were things I could do to improve my bloating and irregularity. I just wasn’t taking the time to do them.
The Game Changer
The #1 thing I had to let go of was not believing that I was worth a happy stomach. I didn’t have the right mindset because I believed people had it worse than me and that I had no time.
Comparing our problems to others diminishes what we feel and does nothing to serve us. In fact, comparison can prevent us from being at our best health and really living our best life.
There would be times where I would feel bloated after a night out with friends or family and then would just feel uncomfortable the rest of the night. I wasn’t really enjoying myself. I was present but not really there. Who wants to live a life where you are kind of enjoying what you are doing?
I also gave up the idea that there was no time to be had to work on myself. As cheesy as it might sound, we really do have to fill up our cup before we fill others. Otherwise, we just burn out and our health problems can become worse.
